How many times have you questioned the path you are on? How many times have you asked yourself if what you are doing is really worth it?
Anybody can reach “good” status. My goal is always “great” because I don’t believe good is where I want to be.
I strive to do as much as possible daily, and it leads to people asking me often if all that work is worth the payoff on the back side.
Yes, it most definitely is worth it!!!
All the bad stuff you go through is worth it if you can keep going until you get through it. What you want might not happen as fast as you would like, but that doesn’t mean it’s OK to quit. Nothing great was ever achieved without time, effort and sacrifice. That’s not how success works.
What you want has to be your passion and your focus. It should consume you. That’s how greatness happens.
Think about this quote: “You don’t have to love hard work! You have to crave the end result.”
Do you crave the end result so intensely that the work becomes irrelevant?
What you do will determine what you get. The tasks you don’t want to do might be what you have to do in order to level up in the game of life. You have to master the mundane that most people don’t want to deal with.
Do you crave the end result so intensely that the work becomes irrelevant?
You have to meet people and talk to them. That’s how you get smarter. That’s how you make that connection that can help you get to the next level. Networking should be fun. When you are around people, look to your left and to your right. Look both ways so you see everybody in the room. Ask people why they look so familiar to you. Why do you think you recognize them? Find one more. Always be looking to find the next winner.
Getting people to move is hard. How do you get somebody moving? Talk to people and be nice. Keep it basic. Keep it simple. Don’t overload people that are not ready for too much information. Meet people where they are and grow the relationship from there.
When you find a person that is interested in what you do, point them to an audio, a book or a meeting. Give them something that they can take action on quickly. The longer the wait, the more weight you shoulder. Waiting makes it harder. Speed is your friend. Get in the positivity zone and teach others to do the same.
Are you setting the example for others around you? Do you exercise patience with people? Set the example, but keep moving when you feel like a person is pulling away.
People don’t believe what you tell them. They rarely believe what you show them. They often believe what their friends tell them. They always believe what they tell themselves. Be a friend. Set the example.
What should you say to yourself and other people?
God says,
I am his masterpiece
I am his workmanship
I am established
I am sealed with his promise
I am redeemed
One of my favorite books is “How To Stop Worrying And Start Living.” I encourage you to read this book and re-read it often. It will help you.
3 Ps of Helpless: Personal (what’s wrong with me?), Pervasive (mess up everything) and Permanent (Always and forever).
Thinking the cure is to be perfect in anything will not work. That’s a bad plan. That’s not gonna happen in case you didn’t know.
There’s really three things you need to be able to handle. They are: Considerations, Fears and Roadblocks.
There are three things that stop goals. They are: Thoughts, Fears and feelings (failure vs. success) and Obstacles.
It is all a process. That’s life. How you learn to deal with all those things and fix them will decide how far you can go. Being normal, whatever that is, is the expectation most people have for others. They expect more for themselves. That’s human nature. Know that’s how people are. Be aware. Face it. Process it. Deal with it.
One of my mentors Jim Rohn said, “you want to set a goal big enough that in the process of achieving it, you become someone worth becoming.”
That’s a big statement. I’m not as much interested in who you are now, but I am fired up about who you become in the future.
The next time you start questioning what you are doing and waver in your self-confidence, remember that if you give up then the dream is over. We all suffer setbacks, but the people who win are those that refuse to quit. I know this is easier said than done. Find ways to trick yourself into pushing through the hard times. I promise you that life will get better if you operate that way.
I wrote about the importance of not quitting in my book, “Inside The Circle.” On page 90, I write about Jimmy Buffett, who had so many chances to quit early in his long, impressive career. He didn’t come out of the gates with hit songs immediately. He had doors closed in his face. He heads the word “no” over and over. He believed in himself, and he believed it would be worth it one day.
Jimmy has put out more than 40 albums. He’s produced a movie (Hoot), acted in CBS’ Hawaii 5-0 and authored best-selling books. He’s opened restaurants, resorts, casinos and branded just about anything you can think of with the iconic “Margaritaville” brand. He’s in his 70s and sells out 20,000-seat venues around the world.
“Quitting doesn’t enter my mind,” Buffett has said. I love that quote and I feel the same way. When I get up in the morning, I’m ready to get stuff done (GSD). You get 24 hours each day. I urge you to spend your time wisely focused on things that help you get better. Success is not impossible if you focus on things that matter the most.
When you get something done, find out quickly what you need to do next. Keep doing … all the time. If you want something bad enough and put in the work, you will get it. You are the only person that can stop yourself from getting what you want. If you don’t believe that, then I want you to change your thinking. Don’t let other people tell you any differently. You are in control.
I hope this post helped you in some way and that you are able to use it moving forward. Thanks for your attention. I appreciate it!
