When Nike introduced the “Just Do It” tagline in 1987, its executives weren’t even sure they needed the words in their ads and posters. Luckily, Dan Wieden, founder of the ad agency Wieden + Kennedy, convinced them to leave it in their ads.
The message resonated with people and, decades later, it’s seen and heard daily all over the world. It’s become a doctrine for athletes and non-athletes to live by. The three simple words can be applied to almost any situation.
How do I win in business? Just do it!
How do I develop a winning attitude? Just do it!
How, how, how? Just do it!
In sales, there’s a couple things you need to figure out before you are successful. You need to find a market, you need to find what is needed in that market, you need a way to fill the need and you need to be able to offer the service to clients. BONUS: It’s helps if you can be unique and different than the competition … offer something that separates you from others.
The other variable that most people don’t understand is that most successful people have a mental toughness that helps them succeed when others fall by the wayside. In a free-enterprise system this can make all the difference in the world.
Here’s another tip: Don’t deal in theory, deal in the DO! I call it “Do The Do.”
“Just Do It!!!”
That’s my version of just do it. What does that mean? It means you don’t let people pigeonhole you into what you are or what you can be. Your goals and dreams are for you to decide and not the rest of the world or society. You get to make the choice!
What do you have to do in order to succeed? Get excited! 90 percent of winning starts with people excited. It’s what attracts others to follow you. Be positive, excited and tough!
What defines a winner? A winner is amazingly consistent over a long period of time. Anybody can stay excited for a couple months. A select few can maintain it for a couple of years. The ultimate winners stay excited for 30 years or however long it takes to win! That’s how you get the edge. Being a dream is an edge, but you have to keep that edge and keep getting stuff done.
I love being around coaches and leaders that have been working with excitement for decades. They make me want to do more. They make me push harder. They make me want to be better. If you want to be great, you have to have a dream … a big dream. If you don’t have a dream, you might as well be dead.
In order to win, you have to feel good about yourself. Get “I CAN’T” out of your vocabulary. Change it to “I WILL!” The next time you say I can’t, make yourself do something you don’t like to do – 10 push-ups, run a mile, etc. Whatever it takes to get that bad attitude out of your mind and body.
There’s nothing you can’t do in America if you put your mind to it. Stand for something. Get off the sideline and get in the game! There’s too many opportunities in front of you to do nothing all day.
If you want to win, you have to stand for something. When you win, people are not going to like it. That’s not your problem, it’s your haters’ problem. Don’t be average and ordinary … anybody can do that. You can be good and tough at the same time … it will mess people up.
Make a total commitment to what you are about and focus on it!!!
You will get knocked down, but will you get back up? That is what will determine whether you succeed or fail. The first step to winning is making a total commitment. That will give you the courage to fight back in tough times. Things won’t always go your way, but you have to stay committed.
Treat people right. Get to know the people in your circle. The only way to manage people and get most out of them is to love them and care about them.
Establish the RIGHT priorities. God, family, business. That’s how it has to work to be great.
People from all walks of life are successful in business. Short and tall. Skinny and fat. Great hair and no hair. If you cut them all open and see what’s inside, you will find the heart of a champion! They don’t quit. They have desire and a will to win. They go for it. They believe. They achieve. They do what others are not willing to do. They work hard. They pay the price a little more than others. They want it more. You have to be tough.
Be a leader. Leadership is everything. You don’t have to be smart to win. You don’t have to be articulate. Smart people try to find a quicker or easier way to do something. Mostly, they don’t get around to doing anything.
People will say you can’t do something. YOU have to DO IT anyway. Don’t listen to them. Just focus and DO! Almost everybody in America does enough to win. They are almost over the hump. Almost in the end zone. Then, for whatever reason, they just don’t finish. Winners get it done. They finish. They do it. They do whatever it takes to get the job done. They do it and do it and do it and do it. Then, they do it again! They are proud and happy to do it.
If you want to be a leader … just do it. “Do The Do!” If you want to be the next superstar … just do it. If you want to be somebody people are proud of and love being around … do it. If you have a bigger dream … do it. If you want a better life … do it!
Don’t talk about it … just do it. Stop saying you are going to do it … just do it. Whatever it is … just do it. Stop telling me you are going to win a contest, a trip, get promoted … just do it!
Do what? DO IT! Do The Do: Sell, Recruit and Build. Do it again!
Now what? Keep doing it. Just do it … again and again and again!
If you are just starting … YOU REALLY GOTTA DO IT!
Just do it!
What is the primary difference between winners and losers? Winners do it … and do it and do it and do it until the job gets done.
Then, they talk about how great it is to have finally achieved something unique and how glad they are they didn’t quit like everybody else. They talk about how wonderful it is to be somebody others can be proud of and make a difference in the lives of others. They love the process it takes to win. Just do it is part of who they are. I love people that simply “Do The Do.”
So, what are you going to accomplish today? What are you waiting for?
JUST DO IT!

October 11, 2020 at 2:07 pmThank you Andy! This was truly inspiring. With this year’s pandemic and getting sick, I allowed myself to fall backwards instead of forward. No more excuses, I’m going to “Do the Do” in all areas of my life. God bless you!
